Microsoft has announced the 2nd generation of Surface tablets. Windows RT based Surface 2 (note that the "RT" has been removed from the name) and Windows 8.1 based Surface Pro 2.
Microsoft is claiming that the Haswell chip powered Surface Pro 2 is faster than 95 percent of laptops currently on the market. In terms of raw figures, there is a performance boost of 20 percent and a graphics performance improvement of 50 percent. The price of Surface Pro 2 starts from $899.
The Surface 2 is the cheaper but faster and lighter than Surface Pro 2. Although RT is no longer part of the name, this model still runs Windows RT. The Surface 2 comes bundled with Office 2013 RT and pricing starts at $449.
Both the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 upgrade SkyDrive users' storage to 200 GB, for free. The devices will be available from 22 October.
