Microsoft announced a desktop version of the Kinect a few weeks ago but now a new report claims that the company is working with Asus to add the Kinect support directly into laptops. The Daily says it has "checked out" a pair of official prototype Asus laptops that include a Kinect sensor built-in. The sensor, running on a Windows 8 laptop, reportedly stretches across the top of the screen, and includes a set of LEDs at the bottom of the display.
This device is the official prototype of laptops featuring a Kinect sensor. In terms of functionality, there are hundreds of different ways that motion control could be leveraged in a portable. Gaming has the most obvious applications, but a Kinect-enabled laptop could also toggle between programs with the wave of a hand, or media controls could be tweaked with the wag of a finger. Whats more, motion-controlled portables could offer a new way for disabled individuals to interact with their devices.
