Microsoft released Silverlight five year ago as a plugin for web browsers. The purpose was to develop rich Internet applications and to compete with Adobe Flash.
With the development of HTML5 when Adobe Flash is pretty much dead on web, Microsoft has also shut down Silverlight browser plug-in and development framework site Silverlight.Net according to Mary Jo Foley.
